Originating from ancient Chinese philosophy, the yin yang symbolises the two complementary forces that make up all aspects and phenomena of life. It is believed that they are opposite forces that are interconnected and counterbalancing. Yin is a symbol of earth, femaleness, darkness, passivity and absorption. Yang is conceived of as heaven, light, activity and penetration. 

The small size of this pendant makes it versatile and can be worn by children although not recommended for children under the age of 6.
